Hello and welcome! My name is Christy Sutton and I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in the State of Indiana and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors. In 2015, I earned my master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University, an institution accredited by CACREP. Currently, I'm in the research phase of my dissertation, focusing on National Guard members and their spouses as part of my pursuit of a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. As the spouse of a veteran, I feel privileged to provide support to our military and their families.

I adhere to a client-centered theoretical approach, incorporating evidence-based practices to support, encourage, educate, and empower my clients. Emphasizing collaboration, I work with clients to identify goals and employ strategies tailored to their needs. Together, we aim to enhance awareness, communication, personal growth, and healing in both individual and relational contexts. Recognizing the significance of focusing on clients' strengths, I assist them in identifying coping strategies to address cognitive distortions and negative behaviors. In my therapeutic approach, I utilize various evidence-based techniques, all while highlighting the importance of self-care to foster a healthier and happier lifestyle.

Over the past eight years, my professional journey has afforded me valuable experiences in pursuing my passion for assisting others. I have employed individual, family, and group therapies in diverse settings, including home-based, school-based, community-based, and traditional clinical environments. My scope of practice spans working with children and adolescents, as well as adults of all ages, including couples and families, representing diverse backgrounds.

My expertise extends to addressing issues such as trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, ADHD, relationship challenges, and mood disorders. I have a substantial background in working with individuals and families involved with the Department of Child Services, parole, and probation.

Throughout my career, I have actively engaged in directly serving and assisting individuals, equipping them with the necessary skills to navigate emotionally distressing situations and cultivate a positive life perspective. Additionally, I integrate faith into my counseling approach when it aligns with the preferences of those I am counseling.

I am enthusiastic about the prospect of working with you and contributing to your journey towards a positive and fulfilling life!

I received my undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and Social Work, and my Master’s in Social Work. I currently have my Social Work license (LSW) and am working towards my clinical license. I grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, and spent my undergraduate experience in Ohio before coming back to IU for graduate school. I have worked with many different types of clients, including survivors of domestic violence, individuals with dementia, and individuals with severe mental illness and addiction. I have worked with individuals who are or have been incarcerated as well, and individuals in an acute mental health setting.

I am passionate about creating a safe space for my clients and working with a client-centered approach that uses evidence-based practices. I have studied cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), as well as many other modalities, and look forward to learning more about Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as well as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help my clients further. My theoretical approach includes utilizing the strengths perspective with clients, as well as person-in-environment to help determine what modality may work the best. In working with each individual, collaboration is something that is very important to me, in order to educate, support, and help with personal growth. I also believe that collaboration is extremely important in helping to develop self-care practices that will work best for each client.

I believe that each individual knows themselves the best, and I look forward to working with you to find a way to increase your ability to function or achieve your goals, whatever they may be. I am also passionate about empowering my clients to make positive changes on their own and overcome adversity. My client base consists of adult clients with a varying range of diagnoses.

In my spare time, I enjoy walking my dog, cooking, and playing music while driving around.
